Little Rock
Welcome to Arkansas’ Capitol City — Little Rock!. With a metro population of about 800,000, Little Rock is the largest city in Arkansas. The name Little Rock comes from a rock formation on the south side of the Arkansas River named ‘la petite rouche’ by the French explorer Jean-Baptiste Benard de la Harpe in the 1720’s.
Little Rock is served by two primary interstates, Interstate 30 and Interstate 40 as well as four auxiliary interstates; Interstate 430 to the west, Interstate 530 serving Little Rock to Pine Bluff traffic, Interstate 630 through town and Interstate 440 on the east side of the city, serving airport traffic. In addition, US-67/167 has been designated as Future 57, giving the area it’s third primary interstate highway.
Various state and national highways service the Little Rock metro area. US Highway 70 runs parallel to Interstate 30 and 40, and US-67/167 runs northeast out of the metro towards Searcy, Walnut Ridge and Missouri. US-65 runs concurrent to Interstates 30 and 40 through the metro, serving traffic to Conway, Pine Bluff, Harrison, Lake Village, Louisiana and Missouri.
