Historic Route 66 in Albuquerque – Central Ave – New Mexico

Drive America’s Highways for 20 miles west along Historic Route 66 in Albuquerque, New Mexico

Our route starts at the junction with Interstate 40 in Carnuel just east of Albuquerque. Along the way we pass through the historic Nob Hill district before sitting in a line of traffic in front of the University of New Mexico. After we clear the traffic line, we head into downtown Albuquerque before arriving just shy of Lomas Blvd at the Duran Central Pharmacy for a lunch break.

Continuing northwest past Lomas Blvd, we make a loop around West Park before crossing the Rio Grande and returning to more of a southwest alignment. We soon cross the intersection with NM-45 (Coors Blvd) where we continue west on Route 66 in Albuquerque. As we drive further along the mother road, the density of buildings relaxes and makes way for more open fields and large stretches of nothing. Eventually, we are forced to turn right and merge onto Interstate 40 as Route 66 in Albuquerque, like this video, ends at the intersection of Rt 66 (Central Ave) and Interstate 40.

NOTE: This is a stitch of our 2016 visit to ABQ and our 2018 visit. Everything before Lomas Blvd was taken in 2016. After that is 2018.
