🚙 Drive America’s Highways for 44 miles east along Interstate 40 from Newport, TN to Lake Junaluska, NC.
We start the drive from Newport to Lake Junaluska merging onto I-40 from the U.S. Route 70 interchange, just west of Newport. Driving initially east on I-40, we soon come across the Pigeon River Gorge, where we turn generally south and southeast. This stretch of highway winds through the rugged mountains of eastern Tennessee and western North Carolina, and is known for its dramatic scenery and winding curves. We take our time and enjoy the ride, as we’re surrounded by towering trees, cascading waterfalls, and stunning rock formations.
As we near the North Carolina border, we come across the Great Smoky Mountains. The views here are truly breathtaking, with misty peaks and sweeping valleys that seem to go on forever. Be sure to stop at one of the many scenic overlooks along the way to take it all in if you are ever in the area! Crossing into North Carolina, we continue on I-40 until we reach the Lake Junaluska exit. Lake Junaluska is a popular vacation spot, known for its stunning lake views and outdoor activities.
Overall, driving from Newport to Lake Junaluska along Interstate 40 is a wonderful way to experience the beauty and history of this part of the country. With so many interesting stops along the way, you’re sure to have a memorable road trip.
