Historic Route 66 in Tucumcari – New Mexico

Drive America’s Highways for 6 miles west along the historic Route 66 in Tucumcari, New Mexico

We start the video merging onto Tucumcari Blvd (Rt 66) from I-40. Entering town, we make a quick stop in the 66 welcome center before continuing west. One more quick stop at the Rt 66 statue on the west side of Tucumcari, we turn southwest at US-54 towards Interstate 40, where we end the video.

    I remember FWJ's video several years ago from Tucumcari, though he was going on the same path but in the opposite direction. Turns out I-40 bypassing the town to the south wasn't open until 1980, which means this very part through town had to carry interstate highway level traffic until 1980.
