U.S. Route 49: Helena/West Helena to Brinkley – Arkansas

🚙 Drive America’s Highways for 48 miles north along U.S. Highway 49 from Helena/West Helena to Brinkley, Arkansas. 🛣️

U.S. Highway 49 traverses north-south across east Arkansas, with a segment connecting Helena/West Helena and Brinkley. This route begins at the intersection with US-49 Business (US-49B) in West Helena. Initially a four-lane highway, it heads west, crossing AR-185 as it departs the city limits towards Walnut Corner.

At Walnut Corner, US-49 intersects the northern terminus of AR-65 and begins a southward concurrency with Arkansas Highway 1 (AR-1). Continuing west, the highway passes through Poplar Grove where it crosses AR-316. In Marvell, the combined US-49/AR-1 intersects AR-243 before AR-1 splits off to the south on the west side of town.

Leaving Marvell, US-49 transitions to a two-lane road and turns northwest. It intersects AR-39 and AR-86 before reaching Blackton, where it meets AR-366. North of Blackton, US-49 crosses US-79 and then turns due north towards Brinkley. Northwest of White Church Cemetery, it intersects another segment of AR-39 and AR-241 before resuming a northerly course.

Upon entering Brinkley from the south, US-49 meets AR-238 and then briefly turns northwest to intersect US-70. The two highways become conjoined (US-70/US-49) and head northeast on Main Street. At the intersection with Cypress Street, US-70 departs eastward, while US-49 continues north towards Interstate 40 (I-40). The segment of US-49 from Helena/West Helena to Brinkley terminates just north of a fuel station, immediately before the I-40 interchange.
