🚙 Drive America’s Highways for 59 miles west along U.S. Highway 278 from Tupelo to Oxford, Mississippi. 🛣️
The segment of US-278 from Tupelo to Oxford begins at the interchange with the Natchez Trace Parkway, just southwest of Tupelo. Initially traveling west as a 4-lane divided highway, the highway turns northwest to pass Trace State Park and enter Pontotoc, where it intersects MS-15 and MS-9 at full interchanges. Continuing northwest, Route 278 crosses MS-336 before passing the south side of Thaxton and other small towns along it’s northwest trek towards Oxford.
At Oxford, the highway bends southwest at the intersection with MS-6 to become a by-pass around the south-side of town. During this segment, the highway intersects several local roads at full interchanges, as well as a somewhat large interchange with Mississippi Highway 7. Leaving Oxford, U.S. Route 278 continues west to the intersection with Mississippi Highway 113 (unsigned) where the segment of US-278 from Tupelo to Oxford ends.
