Drive America’s Highways for 72 miles north along Interstate 49 from Alma to Bella Vista in Arkansas
We start the video merging onto Interstate 49 in Arkansas at it’s southern terminus* at Interstate 40 in Alma. Continuing through the scenic Boston Mountains and paralleling U.S. Highway 71, we drive through the towns of Mountainburg, and Artist Point before driving through the Bobby Hopper Tunnel just before Winslow.
Continuing north, we pass the town of West Fork before reaching the outer regions of the Fayetteville metro area. Soon, we reach Fayetteville proper where I-49 makes a horseshoe bend at the Fullbright Expressway interchange before turning north once again and leaving the city.
Passing through Springdale, Lowell and Rogers, we soon reach Bentonville — the home of Walmart. On the northern side of Bentonville, Interstate 49 and US-71 merge to continue into Bella Vista, and Arkansas Highway 549 continues northwest at an interchange. We end the video just past this interchange at a signal on the city line.
*Interstate 49 is a work in progress in Arkansas. There is a segment in the southwest corner of the state by Texarkana that has it’s own mileage system. There is also a small segment near Ft. Chaffee and Fort Smith that continues the southwest segments mileage. The portion of I-49 in this video is on the northwest corner of the state and was once Interstate 540 and has different mileage than the southwest segment. Because of this, we are labeling the southern terminus as Interstate 40 in Alma.
Note: This video was filmed in the summer of 2017 and contains several construction projects which are complete as of June 2018. We will be revisiting this route in the near future .
