Interstate 24: Chattanooga to Nashville – Tennessee

🚙 Drive America’s Highways for 127 miles west along Interstate 24 from Chattanooga to Nashville, Tennessee.

We start the video merging onto Interstate 24 west from U.S. Highway 27 on the southwest side of downtown Chattanooga. Driving initially south, we drive along the banks of the Tennessee river, opposite Moccasin Bend before crossing U.S. Highway 41 at Lookout Valley. Continuing westbound on I-24, we enter Georgia where we pass the interchange with GA-299/TN-134 and the northern terminus of Interstate 59 before re-entering Tennessee a mile or two later.

Back in Tennessee, we pass through Whiteside before reaching Haletown and the Tennessee River. Crossing the river, we enter Jasper and Kimball, where we turn northwest to stay on 24 towards Nashville. Approaching Monteagle, the interstate divides to climb the Cumberland Plateau. The median through this area widens to over a mile in places, giving this stretch of highway the distinction of being one of the three widest medians on the Interstate system.

At the top of the plateau, we reach Monteagle, where we stay on 24 west to descend the west side of the plateau. Descending at 4% grade, the highway winds down the side of the Cumberland Plateau before straightening out at the U.S. Highway 64 interchange near Pelham. Now driving generally northwest, we pass through Manchester (Home of the Bonnaroo Music Festival, and the route to Lynchburg from I-24) and Murfreesboro where we pass the interchange with Interstate 840 to enter the Nashville Metro area.

Inside the Nashville Metro, we continue northwest on I-24 Passing through Smyrna and La Vergne. As we make our way towards downtown, passing interchanges with TN-171 and 254, we cross the interchanges with TN-255 (Airport), and TN-155 (Briley Parkway) to end the video at the eastern terminus of Interstate 440, where we exit I-24 to head westbound on I-440.
