π Drive America’s Highways for 31 miles north along Arkansas Highway 309 from Havana to Paris via Mount Magazine State Park.
We start the ride from Havana to Paris turning north onto Arkansas Highway 309 from highway 10 in the small town of Havana, Arkansas. Driving initially north, we leave Havana and turn northwest towards the Ozark National Forest. Entering the Forest, we begin our climb up the south slope of Mount Magazine – the tallest mountain in Arkansas and highest point in the U.S. interior highlands. Climbing 2,370 feet over several switchbacks, we reach the top of the mountain and the aptly named Mt. Magazine State Park.
After a break at the park lodge, we resume our trek north along highway 309 — this time down the mountain. Passing the one switchback on the north face, we enter Cove Creek where we make a small fuel stop before continuing on towards Paris. Leaving Cove Creek, we continue north, passing Cove Lake before turning generally west to finish our descent. At the bottom of the mountain, we reach the intersection with Arkansas Highway 109 where we turn right to continue north on AR-309 to enter Paris. Entering Paris, we end the video just north of the intersection with highway 22 in front of the historical county courthouse.
