Interstate 275: Cincinnati Bypass – East Loop

Drive America’s Highways for approximately 41 miles east and south along Interstate 275 from Interstate 75 near Sharonville, Ohio, to Interstate 71/75 in Erlanger, Kentucky — following the eastern half of Cincinnati’s beltway through Ohio and across the Ohio River.

Travel the eastern loop of Interstate 275 around Cincinnati, beginning at I-75 near Sharonville and following the Cincinnati Bypass clockwise through the northeastern and eastern suburbs before crossing into Northern Kentucky and continuing to I-71/75 near Erlanger. I-275 forms a complete beltway around the Cincinnati metropolitan area, with the full route traveling through Ohio, Kentucky, and a short section of Indiana. The beltway is approximately 84 miles long, making it one of the more substantial urban beltways in the Interstate Highway System.

The video starts at the I-75 interchange near Sharonville, where I-275 turns east across the northern side of the Cincinnati metropolitan area. The route passes through the Sharonville and Montgomery areas, crossing several important north-south and regional highways. Among the early major junctions is Interstate 71, providing connections toward downtown Cincinnati to the south and Columbus to the northeast. Other exits serve communities including Blue Ash, Montgomery, Loveland, and Milford as the highway gradually transitions from the heavily developed northern suburbs toward the more open eastern side of the metropolitan area.

Continuing around the eastern loop, I-275 bends south through Clermont County and approaches the Ohio River. This portion of the Cincinnati Bypass provides a very different view from the denser suburban development near I-75 and I-71, with wooded hills, valleys, and a mixture of residential and commercial development appearing along the corridor. The highway eventually reaches the Ohio River and crosses into Kentucky, beginning the Northern Kentucky portion of the drive.

Once south of the river, I-275 continues around the southeastern side of the Cincinnati metropolitan area. The route connects with Interstate 471, which provides a direct route toward Newport, Covington, and downtown Cincinnati, before continuing west through the rolling terrain of Northern Kentucky. I-275 serves as an important regional connector here, linking I-471, local communities, Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport traffic, and the I-71/I-75 corridor. Kentucky transportation planning documents identify I-275 as one of the three principal Interstate corridors serving Northern Kentucky alongside I-471 and I-71/I-75.

The drive concludes near Erlanger at the large interchange with Interstate 71 and Interstate 75. From here, I-71/75 continues north toward Covington and Cincinnati or south toward Florence, Lexington, and Louisville, while I-275 continues west around the remainder of the Cincinnati beltway. Together, the Sharonville-to-Erlanger drive provides a broad look at Cincinnati’s eastern bypass, moving from the northern suburbs through the wooded eastern outskirts, across the Ohio River, and into Northern Kentucky.
