The segment of U.S. Route 78 from Riverside to Pell City begins just south of the interchange with Interstate 20 in Riverside. Travelling initially southwest, the road follows the west bank of the Coosa River for about a mile before turning west to enter Pell City. In Pell City, the segment of US-78 from Riverside to Pell City ends at the intersection with the U.S. Route 231 access road.
